In the last decades mexican traditional toys have graduallybecome exclusively decorative objects because of globalization. Therefore, in the hands of the giant ideological executioner, negative stereotypes have condemned the popular crafts and handcrafted processes, putting at risk the local economy and the cultural heritage of numerous communities.

Popular art.
According to essayist Octavio Paz, it is not the originality of their character what distinguishes mexican people, but the originality of their creations. This is because popular art absorbs the cosmovision of a specific society, becoming a symbol. Specifically handcrafted toys, started to be substituted by industrially mass produced toys as early as 1910. This ocurred mainly because capitalism challenged handcrafting industries -involving most mexican enterprises by half of the XX century- to a faster and more precise system, ridding these products of their unique and inherent beauty.

“But, sir, there is something that you ignore, I have to do these little baskets in my own way, with songs and small pieces of my soul. If I need to make them in millions, I won’t be able to put in them a little piece of my soul and my song in each of them. They would all be the same and that would eventually destroy my heart one piece at a time.”
- Fragment of anonymous story “Canastitas en serie”
